Consultant selected for Romanian airport

A county in Romania has selected a firm to conduct a study into whether to deliver a new airport with PPP.

Brasov has awarded the contract to Reliance Travel & Consulting SRL to analyse the current situation and all possible options for the financing, finalisation and operation of the Brasov-Ghimbav International Airport. The Bucharest-based firm will examine risks that may arise with the proposed 25-year concession or PPP.

Plans have been long-running in the Transylvanian county to build the airport to boost the tourism industry.

In September, a protest took place in the city of Brasov calling on the government to complete the project. Construction was started but subsequently halted due to a lack of funding.

Brasov received two bids for the contract tendered in June.
