Megawide Construction Corporation and Bangalore-based GMR Infrastructure secured the contract to deliver a 82,600sq m terminal at Clark International Airport to serve eight million passengers a year, nearly doubling its current capacity.
The joint venture beat rival bids from China State Construction Engineering Corporation, China Harbour Engineering Company, Sinohydro Corporation and a consortium of Tokwing Construction Corporation and China Machinery Engineering Corporation.
With an estimated cost of PHP12.55bn ($322m), the concession is the first project under the government’s hybrid strategy, unveiled by Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III earlier this year.
The joint venture will build the terminal, to be funded through a combination of official development assistance and state funding.
The Department of Transportation and the Bases Conversion and Development Authority anticipate that the tender for the operation and maintenance of the terminal will be available early next year.
