English waste PPP awarded

A council in northern England has awarded a contract for a waste PPP.

Cheshire East Borough Council has selected Biowise (trading as Wastewise) to design, build, finance and operate an organic waste facility, with an offer touching a £60m ceiling.

Under the plans, the contract will run for 15 years, with the option of extending the term for up to five years.

The authority rejected a bid for lot 2, which involves existing capacity services at the plant to ensure operational continuity, as the submission was “non-compliant”.

The council tendered the project in the second quarter of 2016.
