Velindre hospital gets planning backing

The Welsh government’s hospital PPP deal has been granted outline planning approval.

Proposals for the Velindre Cancer Centre have been given outline planning approval by Cardiff County Council, as the project looks to progress towards being tendered.

“The approval of our outline planning application is a significant milestone for the population we serve across South East Wales,” said Steve Ham, chief executive of Velindre NHS Trust.

The Velindre scheme will be one of the first to be delivered through the Welsh government’s Mutual Investment Model (MIM), which was launched earlier this year as an alternative to PFI or Scotland’s non-profit distributing model.

A technical day in October, hosted by the Welsh government and focused on the MIM pipeline, attracted strong interest from the market.
