London mulls £200m works strategy

The City of London Corporation is considering creating a more strategic approach to its major works projects, including the potential of contracting with a single entity to deliver a planned programme.

A prior information notice issued by the corporation says that it is to undertake a market testing exercise to consider how it could structure a major works strategy that will “deliver economy, efficiency, and effectiveness at both individual project and programme levels”.

The corporation estimates the value of work that would be put through the strategy would be around £200m per year.

“The City sees that there can be benefits in contracting strategically with a single contractor to deliver a planned programme, or a sequence of standalone projects,” the notice adds.

A contract notice is currently scheduled to be issued on 30 April.
