The $1.7bn Rio de Janeiro - Belo Horizonte highway concession will be auctioned in 2023.
Brazil’s Planning and Logistics Company (EPL) has completed a feasibility study on the project, and the Ministry of Transportation is preparing to release a contract notice later this year, once it has received necessary approvals.
The 30-year concession will see private partners deliver three stretches of road between the two city hubs; two sections of the BR40 highway, 287km of highway in Minas Gerais and 125km in Rio de Janeiro, plus a 100m stretch on the BR495 in Rio de Janeiro.
The EPL said the concession will “improve the level of service offered, ensuring greater fluidity, reliability and safety in the transport of cargo and passengers”.
The auction is set to take place in the first half of 2023.
