Portugal plans new hospital PPP

Portugal’s Minister of Health has confirmed plans to deliver another new hospital through the PPP model, following the success of a scheme in Lisbon.

Manuel Pizarro told a parliamentary health commission that he is in favour of using the PPP model, and is looking to develop a new hospital in the Algarve under the initiative.

“I confirm that we maintain this intention not only in relation to Eastern Lisbon, but in the new project for the central hospital of the Algarve,” he said, according to The Portugal News.

He added that the government intends to have the specifications in place to launch the project during 2023.

In July this year, the Portugal government signed an order awarding the Lisbon Oriental Hospital PPP to a consortium comprising Hygeia-Edifícios Hospitalares; InfraRed Infrastructure V Investments; Mota-Engil; and Manvia.
