Denver USACE P3 makes progress

The US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is working to finalize the implementation approach of its fourth pilot P3 project, alongside the City and County of Denver.

In September, the Corps officially designated the South Platte River and Tributaries Project as its fourth pilot P3 scheme and is now working to enable the city to implement the entire project.

This would be a departure from the USACE’s approach in its other P3 schemes, where a split delivery approach has seen the organization deliver part of the scheme while the sponsors deliver the other part using a P3 model.

In April, the USACE agreed a $350m funding deal with the City and County of Denver to deliver the project.

The project will provide an extra measure of flood protection for 350 homes near the river, through improvements to the ecosystem along a 6.5-mile route.
