The Ontario Transit Group consortium has been awarded the contract to design, build and finance the project, including a 6km tunnel; groundworks to build the tunnels and stations; plus delivery of seven stations, six of which will be underground.
Ontario Transit Group is led by Ferrovial and Vinci, and includes Aecom, COWI, GHD and Sener Group as the design team, with Janin Atlas working as part of the construction team and Agentis Capital acting as financial advisor.
The team will begin mobilizing its design and construction crews, with major works to commence in early 2023. The South Civil contract is anticipated to be completed in 2030. The value of the contract is split into $5.5bn capital costs, and $500m in financing and transaction costs.
When complete, the Ontario Line will be a 15.6km new rapid transit line running between the Ontario Science Centre and Exhibition/Ontario Place in Toronto, with 15 stations, including six interchange stations.
