US targets international green bonds support

The US government has unveiled a new program to leverage billions of dollars in new public and private investment in infrastructure in nations around the world.

The US Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) and USAID are looking to accelerate the use of innovative finance mechanisms, as part of the Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment initiative.

Among the work being carried out is the establishment of Climate Finance +, which will support potential green bonds and other climate-related financing through MCC technical assistance in Indonesia, Mozambique, and Zambia.

The program will also see USAID supporting the development of green bonds in at least five additional countries via PPPs.
