The Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works has approved the nomination of former senior vice president of global transportation innovation and alternative delivery at Aecom, Shailen Bhatt, as the new administrator of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).

Bhatt was approved by a voice vote by the committee, and his nomination will now go forward for approval by the full Senate, expected before the end of 2022.

Prior to his time at Aecom, Bhatt served as director of the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and has also been cabinet secretary of the Delaware Department of Transportation, and a presidential appointee at USDOT.

During his Senate hearing for the FHWA role earlier this year, Bhatt suggested a collaborative approach would be the hallmark of his leadership of the organization, insisting that “we get the best results when we work together and listen”.
