ADOT’s Long Range Transportation Plan was published towards the end of 2022, providing a “blueprint and vision” for the state's future transportation system over the next 25 years.

However, the plan reveals a $30bn funding gap for its highway capital needs through 2040, suggesting it will need to consider a range of alternative financing methods to ensure the reliability and safety of its roads.

As part of its outreach around the plan, ADOT has held public meetings to inform the public and gain input into the development of the document.

Among feedback received on the previous iteration of the plan, was concern related to “funding and raising additional revenues for transportation or developing sustainable/alternative funding strategies”.
