The USDOT’s Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has released a request for information (RFI) aimed at speeding up environmental processes.
Feedback is being sought on how to make improvements and accelerate review processes for surface transportation programs under the Inflation Reduction Act, as well as other state, local, and tribal programs, producing a “more efficient and effective” process.
Environmental procedures have long been one of the lengthiest elements of project preparation and are viewed by some as a potential bottleneck for the IIJA & IRA spending.
FHWA leader Shailen Bhatt said the goal of the RFI is to help “identify new strategies and evidence-based solutions that can both increase the efficiency of environmental reviews and reduce delays when it comes to delivering projects”.
The RFI will be released on April 17, 2023.
