The Government of Québec has hired Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ) to study the development of a new inter-university campus scheme.

Under the plans, the pension giant will study the conversion of the old Royal Victoria Hospital site into a university campus, featuring student housing, as well as a research incubator, local shops and offices.

Described as a P3 by the fund, the project will “contribute to strengthening” Monteal’s role as a leading university city and help to alleviate its student housing shortage.

The study is being conducted by Ivanhoé Cambridge, CDPQ’s real estate subsidiary.

Once the study is in, the government will decide whether it will enlist CDPQ for execution.
