New York’s mayor and governor have announced a plan to redevelop the largest armory in the nation and will soon tender for private partners to support the project.

Backed by a $200m investment by Mayor Adams and Governor Hochul, the plan will inform the release of a request for proposals next month for the redevelopment scheme, through the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC).

Based in the Bronx, the Kingsbridge Armory is an historic site but has long been underutilized.

Under the ‘Together for Kingsbridge Vision Plan’, a new economic development opportunity is proposed that will look to unlock private development and boost economic activity in the region.

“The Kingsbridge Armory is a tremendous public asset that is not serving the community,” said Mayor Eric Adams. “This project has the potential to unlock billions in economic impact for the city while creating over 1,800 good jobs right here in the Bronx.”
