UK firm GBM Engineering has signed the deal with Kenya’s National Irrigation Authority to design, build, finance, own and operate the Grand High Falls Dam.
The agreement means that GBM will now begin the preparation work for the project, including updating earlier feasibility studies.
The deal was supported by the UK government, with the dam project having been identified as a key scheme by both governments in November 2022.
Kenya is looking to significantly expand its delivery of dam projects, having unveiled a programme to deliver around 100 new dams across the country through PPPs earlier this year.
