The US Government is entering negotiations for three major transmission lines, with more on the way next year.
The 3.5-gigawatt capacity projects, stretching across Nevada & Utah, Arizona & New Mexico, and New Hampshire & Vermont, are set to receive up to $1.3bn of commitments from the White House.
As part of the deal, the Department of Energy said it is preparing a second round of funding for grid capacity projects, which is set to start in H2 next year.
In the $1bn second round, the DOE specifically mentions P3s as one of the planned components of future projects.
The announcements come as a new National Transmission Needs Study was released today, which asserted that there is a “pressing need for additional electric transmission infrastructure in nearly all regions of the country.”
