The City of Curitiba, Brazil, is preparing a new sustainable bus rapid transit (BRT) P3 to add capacity to its historic bus system.
Under the plans, private partners will invest to reconfigure the city’s bus system, redesigning lines, adding capacity, and decarbonizing the fleet.
Brazil’s national development bank BNDES has been brought on to help structure the deal and manage its procurement.
The city is famous for its current pioneering BRT system, which was established in the 1970s.
“Curitiba has always been a reference in public transport and urban mobility. Now we take another step into the future, with the preparation of the new concession model that will bring sustainable and silent electric buses to the population, metropolitan integration and association with other modes,” said Curitiba’s Mayor Rafael Greca.
