A winner has been selected for Birmingham City Council’s long-running highways PFI deal.
Kier has been confirmed as preferred bidder, beating off competition SNC-Lavalin to take over the role.
Kier will now maintain and operate 2,500km of roadways and 5,000km of footways as part of the £2.7bn PFI contract, continuing on from its 15-month interim contract it started when Amey exited the project.
Earlier this week, the council warned that the project was ‘in jeopardy’, alleging that Chancellor Jeremy Hunt was considering ending the contract by failing to approve the appointment of a new subcontractor before the February 2024 deadline.
