Saudi airport PPP receives significant international interest

The Saudi Civil Aviation Holding Company (MATARAT) in collaboration with the National Center for Privatization & PPP, have received expressions of interest from 100 firms for the proposed Abha Airport PPP.

Among the respondents were several major international PPP players such as Abrdn, AtkinsRealis, Bouygues, DAA International and Mota Engil, as well as a host of local and regional teams.

Under the plans, private sector partners are being sought to deliver a large-scale redevelopment including a new passenger terminal building, car park, airside infrastructure, electrical substation and a sewage treatment plant.

The project is being delivered under a 30-year design, build, finance, transfer and operate concession.

The airport is expected to accommodate up to eight million passengers by 2030, and to exceed 13 million passengers by 2054. It is expected to be operational by 2028.
